About Braille Literacy Canada
Riane LaPaire - Treasurer
Riane Lapaire has been working in the alternate formats and accessibility space since 2012, first with the Saskatchewan Alternate Format Materials (SAFM) Library. There, Riane became connected with long-time braille transcriber Bonnie Read, beginning her journey into the braille universe, and becoming deeply involved with the work of the Canadian Association of Educational Resource Centres for Alternate Formats (CAER).
Riane is currently the braille and accessibility testing coordinator at the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS). In part of this role, she works with publishers and public libraries to increase timely and affordable access to quality braille and tactile graphics. The simultaneous print and braille release projects are among her favourites to work on, especially when they involve tactile graphics. Additionally, Riane leads a team of accessibility testers and analysts who perform accessibility and usability testing, create user guides for various software and hardware, and provide expertise that is integral to every aspect of the work NNELS does.
In her spare time, Riane enjoys reading, gardening, camping, LEGO Club, teaching, listening to and playing music, Nordic skiing, and watching the Montréal Canadiens play hockey.
